States meeting. Present - Hyrum Smith, S. W.; L.N. Scovil, J. M.; John C. Bennett, S; Charles Allen, S.D., H.C. Kimball, J.D., Wm. Felshaw, & Hiram Clark, S; Samuel Rolfe, T.; and Joita Smitt, A. Cowley, Lyman Leonard, David Pettegrew, Christopher Williams, Noar Rodgers, Elijah Fordham, Samuel Henderson, Asahel Perry, Hezekiah Peck, Benjanie Brown, & Jonal Arnold, Members. Asahel Perry was called to the Chair, and Hezekiah Peck appointed T. pro tem. The lodge was then opened in due form, and the minutes of the preceding meeting read. Petitions were then presented from the following persons for the honors of masonry; to wit: Calvin A. Warren, of Quincy, aged 33, Attorney at Law; George P. Stiles, of Carthage, aged 24. Attorney at Law, Warren Smith, L. E. Johnson, A. Morrison, aged 31, Blacksmith; L. E. Johnson, aged 30, Attorney at Law, A. Marrison, aged 38, Merchant; John S. Higbee, aged 38, farmer; Stephen St. John, aged 32, carpenter, Lorenzo A. Wasson, aged 22, Student; John A. Lorge, aged 33, clerk; residents of Nauvoo; all of whom were duly vouched for. The Committee of Investigation then reported favorably on the following persons; to wit: Joseph Smith, Willard Richards, Brigham Young, John Sinder, Peter Haws, Lynian Might, Amasa Lyman, J. B. Backenstos, Sidney Rigdon, Wilford Woodruff, John Taylor, Asahel A. Lathrop, Daniel C. Davis, Wm. S. Cahoon, Henry Brows, Isaac Williams, James Newbury, Ephraim R. Marks, Joel S. Miles, Theodore Turley, Joseph W. Johnson, Joseph B. Noble, Chauncey Robison, J. C. Davis, Francis G. Bishop, F. H. Moeser, D. B. Huntington, Simeon Carter, Jared Carter, A. Ripley, V. Knight, M. D. Huntington, Wilson Law, Elias Higbee, R. Cahoon, Charles C. Rich, G. A. Smith, Aaron Johnson, William Clayton, Gustavus Hills, and Isaac Marley, all of whom were balloted for, and the ballot found clear. The lodge then closed in due form.
