The Church News reports on Harold B. Lee speaking at the Hill Cumorah.
"Pres. Lee Visits Hill Cumorah," Church News, August 4, 1973, 3
On Saturday, July 28, President Lee visited the Peter Whitmer farm, south of Waterloo, N.Y., where the church was organized in 1830, the Martin Harris farm and the Joseph Smith home in Palmyra, and the Sacred Grove.
At the grove, he addressed the pageant cast members, as a gentle wind rippled through the trees. It was a solemn occasion.
He asked the cast, "How does it make you feel to participate in the dramatization that depicts the history of the people of the Book of Mormon? Has there been kindled within you a divine witness that what you've heard is the word of God?"
He continued, "The witness of the Book of Mormon is not found in the ruins of Central and South America. They may be outward evidences of a people long since disappeared. The real witness is that which is found in the Book of Mormon itself.
"The Book of Mormon ought to be to you one of the most prized books you have," he told cast members.
He admonished the young people to live in such a way and pray with such fervor that they will receive the "witness the Book of Mormon is true."
He then bore testimony of the reality of God and His guidance of the church.
"I know this is the place where the Father and the Son came," President Lee emphasized, "and the Lord is still standing close to His leaders.
"Some have thought the day of revelation is long past," he continued, "but I want to bear my witness that that day is not past. The church is being guided by revelation today."
