Some time later another amazing thing happened. As they moved along about midway between the Platte and Sweetwater Rivers, one of Mary's best oxen lay down in the yoke as though it had been poisoned. Everyone supposed that it would die. Since Mary could not afford to lose this good animal. she turned once again to the Lord for help. Producing a bottle of consecrated oil, Mary asked Joseph Fielding to administer to the ox as he would to a sick person. It was most necessary that the animal be restored to health so that they could continue their journey. After the administration, the ox got up and within a few minutes pulled the yoke as though nothing had happened. Three times this happened and three times the oxen were made well. [End of Scene IV.]
