In regard to the Wilmot Proviss, Slavery &c, we wish you distinctly to understand, that our desire is to lead that subject to th operations of time, circumsnacees and common law. you might safely say (if it was of any particular use) that as a people we are averse to slavery, but that we wish not to meddle with this subject, but leave things to take their natural course.
