S. E. Wishard, in a letter to the Salt Lake Daily Tribune, critiques B. H. Roberts for not interacting directly with objections to the LDS Church based on Adam-God and other teachings.
S. E. Wishard, “Elder Roberts on Fellowship,” The Salt Lake Daily Tribune 45, no. 343 (May 3, 1896): 9
The Tribune reported President Woodruff, a year ago, as urging “the elders of the church to cease troubling themselves about who God is, who Adam is, who Christ is, who Jehovah is, and who the holy Ghost is.” And yet we are frequently informed by our Mormon friends that their mission is, in large measure, to correct our false views about God, Adam, Christ, the Holy Spirit, and our relations to them. If we sometimes make a mistake by quoting a Mormon teacher, we frankly ask pardon, and will be pleased to get the real facts if we can find them.
BUT ONE OF TEN.
Elder Roberts confined his discussion last Sabbath to the first of the “Ten Reasons.” Except the correction which he made of the third reason, he said nothing of the other nine. Nothing of the “changing growing God,” nothing of the “Adam God doctrine,” nothing of “the polytheism” of his church, nothing of “polygamy,” nothing of that amazing doctrine of his church that “God is a polygamist,” and that “Adam is the father of Christ’s human nature.” These points were all passed by.
