[MICHAEL BRINGS A MAN OUT OF HELL]
And MICHAEL said, ‘Get ye one and depart ye from this place.’ And he went into SHEOL and descended into the depths thereof and he did not find the man he was seeking. And on the first occasion he brought out on his wings sixty thousand [souls], and similarly with [each of] is six wings he brought out sixty thousand [souls]. And on the second occasion he brought out [a like number] but he did not find the man he was seeking. And he penetrated the depths of hell laboriously a third time, and he raked GAHÂNAM to pieces and brought out that man. And the number of those [souls] who through that man escaped from SHEOL was five hundred and forty-six thousand. And some of these were heathen. And the angels said, ‘This thing is terrifying.’
