Blessing pronounced upon the head of ELDER BRIGHAM H. ROBERTS, on being set apart to preside over the Eastern States Mission, under the hands of Presidents Heber J. Grant, Charles W. Penrose and Anthony W. Ivins, President Grant being mouth, at Salt Lake City, May 29th, 1922.
Brother Brigham H. Roberts, we, the servants of the Living God, holding the Holy Priesthood, and in the authority of the same, lay our hands upon your head, and we set you apart as the President of the Eastern States Mission, to preside over all the affairs of that Mission, spiritual and temporal; and we pray God, our Heavenly Father in your behalf that He will strengthen you in body and in mind and fit and qualify and prepare you in every particular to faithfully and capably discharge all the duties and responsibilities of this important mission. As the servants of the Lord we bless you with vigor of body and mind to accomplish all that your heart can desire in righteousness in connection with this important missionary labor that has now come to you. We pray that your memory may be strengthened, that you may have greater liberty, if possible, of utterance in proclaiming the Gospel while presiding over this mission, than you have had in the past; that you shall be abundantly blessed of the Lord in every labor that shall come to you, in writing in defense of the people and in proclaiming the word of God to the people with whom you a come in contact.
We pray God to bless you with influence and prestige and power with the Elders and with the lady missionaries that shall work under your jurisdiction, that your influence with them shall be remarkable and wonderful, and that you shall be capable of inspiring them to diligence and faithfulness and energy in proclaiming the Gospel in that section of the Lord’s vineyard. We say unto you, dear brother, go forth relying not upon any capacity or ability that you possess, but relying upon the Lord, and seek in humility day by day for the light and inspiration of His Spirit as your guide and companion. And we say unto you that you shall be blessed with great wisdom, and that you shall be warned of dangers, seen and unseen, and you shall be preserved from harm and evil, from sin and accident, and that you shall have great joy in your labors in proclaiming the Gospel. We bless you for your labors in the past, for your diligence in writing and proclaiming the truth and in defending it at home and abroad. We pray God, our Heavenly Father, in your behalf, that He will give you great joy and happiness and peace in your labors as the President of the Eastern States Mission.
These blessings, together with all former blessings that have been pronounced upon your head, and with every bless ing that is necessary for you to have, we, the servants of the Lord, not in our own strength or power, but in the strength and power and authority of the Holy Priesthood, seal upon you, and we do it, not in our own name, but in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we say unto you go forth in peace and return in safety, after having completed a great and a good work, and we do it all in the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, Amen.
