Etymology: JEW(S) is the name of an ancient Near Eastern people originally descended from Judah. JEW is generally the King James Version equivalent of the Hebrew yěhûdî. In the Book of Mormon, JEWS refers not just to descendants of Judah but also to those who lived in the kingdom of Judah (cf. 2 Nephi 33:8). While the term Jews is common in the New Testament, which may lead some to consider the term in the Book of Mormon to be anachronistic, Book of Mormon usage of the term is consistent with Old Testament passages such as 2 Kings 16:6; 25:25; and Jeremiah 32:12.
