Nor do ‘the strict laws of the Jewish system of name-giving’', to which E. Stauffer refers in Jesus and his Story (ET, 1960), 24f., 166, affect the matter at all. A son is named after his father as a matter of course, and only in case of illegitimacy after his unmarried mother; but the remarks of the Nazareth crowd are not a record of births.
