Kirtland 8th March 1837
Know all men by these presence that I J. W. Briggs of Painsville Geauga County Ohio, am firmly bound by these presence in the penal Sum of one thousand Dollars to the Kirtland Safety Society; which I bind myself my heirs executors & administrators to well and truly pay to said Society as afore said
Now the condition of the above obligations is such that if said J. W. Briggs shall at all times when presented to him, receive the Notes of said Society & not return them himself or by others either directly or indirectly to the office of said Society to be redeemed with Specie or Notes of other Bank— and also use his influence at all times & in all places at home & abroad both directly and indirectly to sustain the above named institution & promote its interest, by putting into the hands of the Cashier of the Same all the Specie & Bankable money that comes into his hands then this obligation is to be nul & void <(for which accommodations I acknowledge the receipt of fifty Dollars)> otherwise to remain in force givn under my hand & seal this 8th March 1837
