Resolved, That we conceive it a dereliction of our duty to give our suffrages for any office within the gift of the people to a freemason who has not publicly renounced the institution and principles of freemasonry, or to any person who approbates the institution or treats with levity, or attempts to palliate or screen the horrid transaction relative to the abduction of William Morgan.
Resolved, That we deem the silence of many of the public journals, relative to the appalling and diabolical transactions at Batavia, Canandaigua and fort Niagara during the month of September, 1826, in the abduction, savage treatment and horrid murder of the said Morgan as deserving the reprobation of every honest man.
Resolved, That we deem the conduct of those who have not been initiated into the dark principles of masonry, who do attempt to prop up and support the falling fabric. as worthy of the deepest contempt and honest abhorrence of every virtuous and enlightened citizen.
Resolved, That we believe those men who were so honest and independent as to renounce the institution, and denounce the principles of Freemasonry, and thereby to warn us of our danger, are entitled to our warmest gratitude.
Resolved, That those editors of public Journals, who have watched as faithful sentinels, the Palladium of our liberty, although they were assailed by Freemasons, with slander and reproach, and threatened with poverty, proscription and death, and still manfully and patriotically persevere, are viewed by us as the greatest benefactors of their country.
Resolved, That we do, with feelings of profound gratitude, approbate the patriotic zeal with which the Lewiston committee have persevered in opposition to masonic slanders and threats to investigate and publish to their fellow citizens, the history of the horrid transactions at Batavia, Canandaigua, and Niagara.
