Miles, visiting brother.

The W.M. then proceeded to call the attention of the Lodge to the ungenerous and, in his estimation, the unmasonic treatment of the Grand Lodge towards us as a Lodge. He considered that we would be justified masonically by the Grand Lodge of the United States in resuming our work until we had the privilege of presenting a memorial and appeal from the decision of the Grand Lodge of Illinois to a higher tribunal. After the W.M. had concluded his remarks, the Ayes & Noes were called upon the question: "Shall this Lodge proceed to work and confer the degrees of Masonry on all worthy men in this City who desire them?" The vote was unanimous in the affirmative.

The W.M. continued his remarks, exhorting the brethren to union, fellowship, and steadfastness in the Masonic knowledge & works. He believed that we were not obligated to pay our dues to the Grand Lodge until they granted us a Charter and thought they ought to make amends to this Lodge for the injury done to our characters as men and masons without any just cause or provocation. Notably, as it is a generally known fact that our work outshines that of many others and our love and zeal for the institution is manifest to every unbiased mind. The Lodge then resolved to continue the work of building the Masonic Hall.

On motion, Dimick B. Huntington was appointed Junior Deacon Pro Tem. Petitions were presented from candidates for the honors and benefits of Ancient York Masonry, including: Isaac Thompson, aged 21, Farmer; Benjamin B. Bentley, aged 30, Joiner; Peter Shirts, aged 30, Farmer; Daniel M. Repsher, aged 38, Carpenter; Joseph M. Cole, aged 36, School Teacher; Harmon J. Aikens, aged 27, Laborer; Alexander Wright, aged 38, Laborer; Joseph Curtis, aged 28, Farmer; Charles W. Wandell, aged 25, School Teacher; Edmund Nelson, aged 40, Laborer; John Tippets, aged 38, Carpenter; John Jones; Tarlton Lewis, aged 38, Laborer; William Snow, Carpenter; Levi Richards, Physician; Andrew A. Timmons, aged 45, Farmer; George C. Riser, aged 25, Boot & Shoe Maker; and Erastus Snow, aged 25, Merchant. These were referred.

The Committee of Investigation reported favorably on the petitions of Moses Smith, Levi Stringham, Charles Hulet, Daniel Avery, Orsamus F. Bostwick, and Roswel Stevens. The Lodge proceeded to ballot for them and in each case, the result was clear. They also reported favorably on the petition of George Stringham, but his ballot was not clear and he was declared rejected. Brother William A. Weston applied for membership.

No further business appearing, the Lodge adjourned until Saturday evening next at 6 o clock.

Wm. Clayton, Secretary.

Hyrum Smith, W. Master.
