Rev. Ethan Smith was called, and installed on November 21, 1821. His relations with the church were pleasant for about five years, but on November 3, 1826, a church meeting was held at which Mr. Smith stated "that a misunderstanding had arisen between one of the deacons and himself, which they were unable amicably to adjust." A council was called, and he was dismissed. They were then without a pastor until October 24, 1827, when Rev. Sylvester Cochran was installed.
