THE LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL.

The work of Dr. Grant, on the identity of the Nestorians of Persia with the lost tribes of Israel, which has been read with great interest by many, and has convinced not a few, is in a fair way to receive an early quietus. In the last number of the, Biblical Repository, Dr. Robinson, the learned Oriental scholar, and author of "Researches in Palestine," has commenced an article in opposion to Dr. Grant's theory, which he demolishes at a stroke.

Dr. Buchanan found the ten tribes in India: Dr. Grant in Persia; Ethan Smith in North America; and recently an Englishman has written a book, proving they are somewhere else. The opinion of Dr. Robinson on a subject more curious than profitable will be inferred from the following paragraph:

"Of the previous theories, that which recognizes the lost tribes of Israel in the aborigines of North America is perhaps at the present day the most popular. I has been sustained with a good deal of acuteness and much zeal by Dr. Boudinot, Ethan Smith, and M. M. Noah; and to it, after example, Mr. Buckingham has recently given his adhesion."
