To the astonishment of all, the Federal faction came forward, and clamorously and violently opposed the motion in the most abusive terms—at length, the motion was put, and carried by the Republicans, by a considerable majority in the affirmative.—The Federalists, nevertheless, still clamored against such a prayer—the Republicans then proposed, for peace sake, to proceed as usual—Solemn prayer ensued, and the Rev Ethan Smith in his prayer, seemed to notice the request, and prayed with the fervency of a true Republican.
