Hitler's Persecution of Jews Assailed by Levi Edgar Young

Actions of Nazis Declared 'Most Terrible Blotch on World History'

Adolf Hitler's persecution of Jews was characterized as the "most terrible blotch on world history" by Levi Edgar Young University of Utah professor of history in a Thanksgiving address before members of the Salt Lake City Kiwanis club in the Hotel Utah Wednesday.

"The Jewish people have been leaders in the development of the highest principles of our civilization," asserted Professor Young In his defense of the race.

Professor Young described the Jew in American history and pointed out that it was a Jew who gave money to Columbus, which enabled that voyageur to discover America.

A Jew saved Washington's army, he also said.

The solution of the great problem of hate of man for man, Professor Young said, "is up to the people of America."

"They have been given all and all is expected of them," the speaker said. "Understanding of religious freedom and sacredness of citizenship are the things we have more than anything else in this troubled world."

Professor Young described the principle of religious freedom in the United States and the institutions which have grown out of the efforts of pioneers.
