Possibilities of outbreak of any extensive war in Europe seon were discounted Tuesday by George D. Pyper, general superintendent of the L. D. S. Deseret Sunday School union, and Roy A. Welker, formerly president of the L. D. S. German-Austrian mission, on their return to Salt Lake City after extensive stays on the continent.

"The nazi regime in Germany is characterized by marked orderliness and both the government and the people are strongly opposed to war," Mr. Welker said. Accounts of nazi activities published in American newspapers and magazines have shown strong bias, he asserted.

Europe Coming Back

Mr. Pyper said economically Europe is making a strong comeback and that the only evidences he found of a war scare were in the news-papers.

"The people everywhere were busy making their livelihoods and were strongly opposed to war." he said. The ministry of religion In Germany has shown little interest in L. D. S. activities, leaving contact with the church to local agents of the ministry, who, almost without exception, were friendly and tolerant, Mr. Welker said.

Mrs. Welker, who headed women's organizations in the mission, reported excellent cooperation from the nazi women's division, which acts as a combined Red Cross and diversified activity organization.

A Relief society sponsored series of meeting to promote world peace, similar to others held in the United States, met hearty approval of the German government, and Relief society, M. I. A. and Beehive Girl programs of the church were approved.

Jews Declared 'Safer'

"Jews are safer in Germany today than in many other parts of the world," Mr. Welker said. "It is true that the nazis are working to segregate Jews, but they are treated well otherwise. Nazi dislike of Jews and hatred of communism are at the root of most propaganda against that nation," he continued.

Mr. Pyper classed the Rotary International convention at Nice, France, and the L. D. S, British mission centennial as the highlights of his visit of more than three months to principal countries of Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Welker will leave this week for Ephraim, where Mr. Welker will be director of the L. D. S. institute near Snow college.
