In the evening I sat up part of the time to hear the first part of our game with Stanford at Palo Alto which we won by a score, I understnad, of 95 to 89. We had anticipated that there might be a sit-down strike on the part of the blacks who would get on the floor and try to prevent the game. This, however, did not develop, but I do understand that the Director of Athletics issued a statement to the effect that if any players did not want to play the could sit the game out and would not thereby jeopardize their grants-in-aid. This of course is a very bad concession and will cause considerable trouble if followed elsewhere.
