Anthony W. Ivins records in his journal that he and B. H. Roberts spoke at conference; calls into question the sincerity of Roberts' apology about his political stances in light of conference talk.

[October 6, 1909; Wednesday] Concluding conference meetings. 10. A.M. Opening exercises. I occupied 30 minutes. B. H. Roberts occupied 55 minutes. His remarks seemed to me to be an unnecessary criticism of the policy of the Church. Such a talk might properly be made by the President of the Church but not by Bro Roberts. The fact that he apologized for what he said, was sufficient evidence that he did not himself feel sure of his ground.
