Pageant depicts Mormons in same light as "negroes."
"Pageant Held at Silverton," The Capitol Journal (Salem, OR), May 3, 1926, 2
The pageant put on by the members of the Missionary society at the Methodist church during the county district convention was considered exceptionally good. Some of the dark places of America were vividly depicted by the short but forcible acts. Dark side of Mexico was enacted in native dress and habits, also a Chinese settlement of the poorest type in America. The negro, Mormons, Indians, Italians were also shown in native color, dress and habits. This was done particularly to show how much missionary work is needed to be done in our United States.
