Brigham, in his history, writes that he will not hold the Indians back from attacking if the government persisted in sending army.

If the government persists in sending an army to destroy us, in the name of the Lord, we shall conquer them. If they dare to force the issue, I shall not hold the Indians by the wrist any longer, for white men to shoot at them; they shall go ahead and do as they please. If the issue comes, you may tell the government to stop all emigration across this continent, for the Indians will kill all who attempt it.
2 days before MMM, BY warns Captain Van Vliet that he will not hold the Indians back from attacking if the government persisted in sending the army into the territory
