Equus neogeus LUND

Principally found from the savanna of eastern Brazil to the Argentine Pampa, it is dated ca. 11,960-10,000 yr B.P. at Lapa Vermelha IV (Dillehay et al. 1992), surviving to 84,90 ± 120 and 6,890 ± 60 yr B.P. at Raimundo Nonato (Faure et al. 1999). In the Pampa area, Buenos Aires Province sites like Quequen Salado are dated between ca. 28,000-4000 yr B.P. (Prado & Alberdi 1994) and must represent the Equus sp. at archaeological sites like Arroyo Seco dated to ca. 8,890 ± 90 and 7,320 ± 50 yr B.P. (Dillehay et al. 1992)
