February 5, 1856: [S]he [Sarah Mousley] also speaks of Bro. Knopp having married a collored girl & says they all wish. . . to return soon to &c. Sister Rachel says they are determined to go to the valley next spring. . . February 12, 1856. . . Wrote a letter to Prest. Jn Taylor asking his council what step to take with Bro. Wm Knopp, when I return to Delaware, as he has married a yellow girl since I left, I would say take his priesthood from him & let him remain in the Church, but I thought best to seek council on it before acting. . . March 16, 1856 At 10 o'clock held council meeting, cut two off from the Church Wm Knopp for contempt of council & Marrying a yellow girl he being an Elder in the Church. . . Bro. Knopp was not there.
